Para Los Niños within the Department of Pediatrics at the University of New Mexico is seeking a full-time LISW/LPCC Licensed Social Worker, to provide the crisis management/social work component of the Para Los Niños Program. Bilingual skills are preferred. Para Los Niños provides medical evaluations for children and adolescents with concerns of sexual abuse and sexual assault. This multidisciplinary team provides comprehensive medical examinations, laboratory evaluations, crisis counseling and anticipatory guidance. PLN is the primary 24 hour on call service for pediatric sexual abuse. Medical examinations and services are free of charge. Our medical providers are bi-lingual in Spanish and English. Services are provided on an emergency and scheduled basis.

This position will provide crisis counseling and case management specific to the needs of families affected by child sexual abuse and sexual assault. Provides both individual and group interventions that positively impact families and patients ability to manage the aftermath of child sexual abuse/assault. Provides education and guidance on sexual abuse/assault and it’s emotional and psychological impact on patients and families for community agencies, new employees and students at all levels. Oversees and administers the daily operation of clinical services such as intakes and triage of emergency and scheduled cases and provides a range of direct patient care evaluation and social work services. Makes decisions independently in a clinical setting that involves a high degree of specialized knowledge of the dynamics of trauma associated with sexual abuse and sexual assault.
