NMCADV supporting Strangulation definitions in NM laws

Our Policy Coordinator Lisa Weisenfeld interviewed this weekend with KOB Eyewitness News 4 to explain the importance of defining strangulation in NM civil and criminal codes in a bill proposed for this year’s legislative session.

Strangulation victims are 7 times more likely to later on become victims of homicide. Our hope is to strengthen our laws to enhance conviction rates and get survivors the medical attention and help that they need. Forty-four other states currently have strangulation laws and we hope to add NM to that list.
