The forum gave us an opportunity to raise awareness on domestic violence and sexual assault issues, as we asked for an improved response and accountability from our criminal justice system.
Questions were gathered on difficult and hard hitting domestic violence and sexual assault issues like low prosecution rates, victim safety, strangulation law, firearm surrender, increased training and accountability for ADA’s, and culturally appropriate services. Many audience members were impressed with Mr. Torrez’s responses. He expressed a commitment to work more closely with the coalitions to increase prosecution of DV/SA violent offenders in Bernalillo County.

The forum opens with some words from each coalition: Deleana OtherBull, ED of CSVANW; Kim Alaburda, ED of NMCSAP; and Lisa Weisenfeld, Policy Coordinator for NMCADV.
The forum was moderated by Susan Loubet of NM Women’s Agenda.
