Job Title: Communication Coordinator

Employee Type: Part Time (20-25 hours) – Contract work possible dependent upon circumstances.

Reports to: Executive Director

Position Location: Remote. Offices are available in Santa Fe and Albuquerque as needed. Limited in-state travel required.

Position Overview

The purpose of the Communications Coordinator position is to:

  • Elevate the profile of domestic violence efforts and accomplishments throughout the state of New Mexico by the NMCADV and domestic violence programs/membership organizations;
  • Enhance community understanding and support for the mission of the NMCADV and it’s programs;
  • Fundraise by increasing donations, primarily through website, email campaigns and social media efforts

The Communications Coordinator will work closely and regularly with the Executive Director and the Events and Production staff in the implementation of position activities.

Essential Job Functions

  • Assess communication gaps and needs and develop a communication plan.
  • Develop and maintain appropriate donor communication and relations processes.
  • Manage and maintain an effective website and work as necessary with prospective web developers to improve website.
  • Produce and manage compelling content on Facebook and other social media sites.
  • Create newsletters for members and current and prospective donors.
  • Produce new member orientation materials.
  • Develop or maintain processes for communicating NMCADV activities to members effectively, including awareness and other community events, training opportunities, and various coalition/membership updates and calls to action.
  • Effectively promote Coalition activities including training and other events.
  • Coordinate and facilitate membership meeting details in cooperation with staff including finalizing agenda and publicizing all details to member programs.
  • Serve as an initial media contact and make referrals to appropriate NMCADV spokespeople.
  • Pitch stories to all media in consultation with Executive Director.
  • Develop content for and maintain brochures, posters and other printed materials.
  • Assist the Executive Director in the development of content for a messaging & communication training designed for and deliverable to domestic violence programs.
  • Assist Executive Director in presenting content, internally and externally, and provide technical support in the development of PowerPoint and other presentations.

Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communication, or substantially similar area, and previous communication related job experience of at least one year.
  • Proficiency Microsoft Office Suite
  • Fluent in social media and experience in social media management
  • Basic website management/administration preferred, especially WordPress
  • Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, etc.) skills highly desirable
  • Highly organized and detail oriented
  • Excellent time management
  • Demonstrates excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Previous experience in developing a communications plan highly desirable. 

Other Position Requirements:

  • Individual will be subject to criminal background check.
  • Employee must comply with all operational policies, especially those involving the safety of fellow workers, volunteers, and clients/customers.
  • Employee must maintain a current and valid driver’s license to perform work duties.
