The Core Advocacy Training is the foundational training for domestic violence advocates and batterer intervention facilitators in New Mexico.  It is also a fantastic training for our community partners to learn deeply about domestic violence, network with advocacy programs, and join with us in developing a trauma-informed lens that encourages our own health in addressing violence and understanding the deep impact on those we serve.

The core aspects of this training are victim-centered advocacy, trauma-informed services, and experiential skill building.

Core Advocacy Training Structure:

We have recently reworked both the in-person content, self-study online training course, and will now be incorporating a follow-up workshop to reinforce the tools and practices advocates need to engage with those they are serving in a meaningful and trauma-informed way.

  • In-Person Intensive (21 hours)

Participants will attend an in-person intensive which will be three full days of knowledge building and experiential training.

  • Online Training (12 hours)

Participants will also complete the online training course. The online course has been condensed and focused down to 12-hours to build all-around competency in domestic violence related knowledge.

  • Follow-Up Workshop (2-3 weeks after initial session)

Participants will  attend a mandatory follow-up workshop to complete their 40-hour training. This advanced workshop will provide participants with an opportunity to further develop the skills that they learned in the initial in-person intensive. The focus will be on teaching advocacy skills that promote engagement and self determination. The skill development portion will occur in a supportive environment with demonstrations and individualized feedback.
