Empathy Training

Click here to listen to a short audio recording from NMCADV Executive Director Pam Wiseman who will be presenting the training.

What is it?

Empathy training is a 2.5 day experiential training, during which participants learn why and how to really listen to others.

What will be covered?

  • Understanding the concept of empathy
  • Becoming aware of its importance to establishing meaningful contact and rapport with others
  • Be able to see its usefulness in working in many different settings
  • Learn about the blocks to listening and how to avoid them
  • Be able to effectively identify a person’s feelings and reflect that feeling back to them and be able to ask effective, open-ended questions
  • Giving and getting constructive feedback
  • And more….

What will you have to do?

Come prepared to interact with others in a safe, positive way. Be willing to listen,  be listened to and offer and receive  constructive feedback.

Many participants say that this is the most useful and rewarding training that they have ever attended. In order to benefit, you must attend all days for your session.

A brief application is required along with a recommendation from your director or immediate supervisor. All trainees must have completed the 40 hour, core advocacy training (or similar) and be a member of the staff in a domestic violence program in NM for at least one year.  All participants are subject to approval.  Registration information, application questions, and other details are below.

Cost: $50

There will be 4 separate Empathy Training sessions scheduled in the next 6 months in various regions around the state. Each training will be limited to 10 participants.  We ask that you attend the training closest to your area, as well as seriously commit to this training as space is limited.
